I keep hearing weird noise?!?

Every time i go fishing, i hear this weird noise in the woods. It sounds like a bass, or someone staring a lawnmower from a distance. Or maybe someone pounding on a drum. I asked my one friend about it, he said it was a bird, using his mating call by poofing out his chest. Anyone know what it is?
